Heartbroken family of teen cyclist killed after being hit by car left 'devastated'

The family of a teen cyclist who died after being hit by a car in Dundee have paid an emotional tribute to him.

Cairn Rankine died when he was struck by a Nissan car on Pitkerro Road at around 7.15pm on Thursday, March 5.

Officers from Police Scotland and paramedics attended the incident, but sadly the 15-year-old passed away at the scene.

Cairn 's family have been left "devastated" by his death, including his two sisters.

The Morgan Academy pupil and a Lance Corporal in Army Cadet was also a big Celtic football fan.

His family said in a heartfelt statement: "As a family we are devastated by our sudden loss, Cairn was a much loved son and was a brother to two sisters.

"He was pupil at Morgan Academy in S4 where he had great friends. He was also a Lance Corporal in Army Cadet in the Medics, along with assisting at Stobswell Army Cadets .

"Cairn was also a big football fan.

"We do not wish to comment further and asked that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time."

Cops are now urging anyone with information to come forward.

Inspector Greg Burns of the Road Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Cairn during this tragic time.

"Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash to speak to officers.

"Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 3412 of 5 March, 2020."
