Heartbroken family of student who died after falling from Merchant City flat pay tribute

Tributes have been paid to a young man who died after falling from a balcony in the Merchant City.

Stuart Anderson passed away after falling from the seventh floor of a building on Ingram Street on Sunday night.

The 23-year-old from Port Glasgow was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after the incident at 10.15pm but sadly could not be saved.

Stuart's brother Callum posted a tribute to his younger sibling on social media describing him as his 'role model'.

He wrote: "Can’t believe I’m writing this and not even close to being over the shock.

"My brother Stuart was involved in an accident and sadly passed away in the early hours of the morning.

“Heartbroken doesn’t even come close to how me and the family are feeling at the moment.

“Even though he was the younger brother, I still looked up to him as a role model and can’t comprehend that he’ll no longer be here.

“Love and miss you brother. Sleep tight.”

The Strathclyde University student's former football team Inverclyde AFC Under 21s also posted a touching tribute.

They said in a statement: “Absolutely devastating news about our ex-player Stuart Anderson, who tragically died in the early hours of Monday following an accident.

“A brilliant player and team mate, but most of all just a great guy.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

“RIP Ando.”

Danielle Steele wrote: “One of the very best people I ever had the pleasure of knowing, a beautiful, intelligent and caring soul.

“Our family are absolutely heartbroken for you and your family, so sorry.”

Alisdair Cannon wrote: “Devastating Callum. He was an inspiration to us all.”

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries have been carried out and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
