Heartbroken family of 'star' mum killed by coronavirus donate tablets to hospital to keep patients connected to families

The family of a woman who tragically lost her life to coronavirus have donated tablets to the hospital who looked after her so patients can stay connected with their families.

Mum-of-four Colette Mullen, 48, died at Crosshouse Hospital on April 10 after being admitted with symptoms of the virus.

Her heartbroken family were able to tell her how much she was loved in her final days via video link.

They have now put their efforts into raising almost £4000 to ensure other families get the same opportunity to connect while coronavirus lockdown prevents face-face contact.

The money has provided tablets for Facetime messaging to hospitals in Ayrshire.

Her daughter Rebecca, 20, tweeted: “Since my mum passed away my family has raised £4K & donated 12 Tablets to both Ayr and Crosshouse Hospitals.

“Sadly my mum lost the battle to Covid.19 but as a family we feel like we owe this to the amazing ICU Staff at Crosshouse Hospital who fought so hard to save my mum.”

Her sister Chelsea, 24, said: “As a family we are massively overwhelmed by the generosity of every person who donated.

“We never expected to raise as much as we did but we are so grateful to everyone as being able to give something back to Crosshouse is something we are very proud to do in our Mums memory.

“£4000 is a fantastic amount, as well as our extended Mullen family who also donated 12 tablets across Crosshouse and Ayr hospital to keep love ones connected during this time.

“Also, we are extremely fortunate to have had the help of Ryan Wilson at Wilson and Drury Funeral Services to help us every step of the way and we can not recommend him and his business enough as he made a time which is incredibly difficult for all of us, a lot less difficult to manage.”

Villagers in Catrine lined the streets to say farewell to mum-of-four Colette on April 21 as a procession was led by horse-and-cart through the area.
