Family of Fife man who took own life urge whoever lifted his belongings to return them

The devastated family of a tragic Fife man who took his own life last week are trying to track down his phone and wallet after they were picked up by a passerby.

Ross Elrick passed away at the age of 31 at Burntisland Train Station on Sunday, January 24. His belongings were left on a bench at the station, however the family are yet to have them returned after they were lifted by somebody in the area.

Ross' uncle Iain McGarry has now issued a public appeal in a bid to help have the valuables returned. It's believed somebody wearing a hoodie and facemask was seen on CCTV picking up the items.

He posted: "This was my nephew who sadly took his own life last Sunday (Jan 24th) at Burntisland Railway Station. He left his phone and wallet on the bench and was then taken by someone. Please share as we are desperate to get them back for his mum and dad. Any info then please DM. Thanks."

Dozens of people have shared the appeal in a bid to spread word, and have the items returned.

Ross was a much-loved son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew and friend, and many people were keen to pay tribute after learning of his passing.

Drew Cochrane said: "One of the greatest humans to walk this earth. His friendship was a gift I'll cherish forever."

Steven Andrew Proctor added: "Ross is one of the nicest and passionate people I was fortunate to know. He was a patient teacher and always had the time to help. Such a warm and charismatic person."
