Heartbroken family of man stabbed to death make desperate graveside plea

The family of a Crosby man who was stabbed to death by bouncers have released a moving film on social media to mark the 18th anniversary of his death.

On Sunday Colin's friends and family  gathered at his graveside in Thornton to remember him, and highlight awareness of knife crime.

They also took part in a training run ahead of a marathon later this year to mark what would be Colin's 40th birthday.

Colin's sister Laura said to the ECHO : "We wanted to get everyone to meet his grave, just to remind everyone of what this is all about."

In the film Laura remembered the day her brother died.

She said: "Colin has been dead nearly as long as he was alive - which is strange. I just think of all the things he has missed out on over the last 18 years. So Sunday was a bittersweet occasion for us.

"He will be 40 this year which will also be sad for us. Obviously many of friends have turned 40 - it's strange seeing them celebrate.

"You are happy for them, but also think about Coliin and the milestones he has missed out on. I know he would be a dad now."

Colin was in the Marsh Lane area with his pals when a VW Golf pulled up and a group of men jumped out.

The friends split up as the gang chased them.

Colin, who knew the area, tried to jump over a wall near a pub, but the men caught up with him. He was stabbed repeatedly and died in hospital hours later.

Last week Laura told the ECHO about the anger she still felt toward the killers, and the fear they felt when they began to learn that Colin's killers were linked to the Liverpool underworld.

She told the ECHO how they felt intimidated during the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, and were shocked when they learned about Brown and Hampton's violent pasts.

She said: "Unfortunately the knife crime issue that took my brother's life has only got worse over time.

"Colin was an innocent victim. My message to anyone reading this story is that this could happen to your brother, son or dad tonight. Your loved one could be the next Colin. We need to focus on kife crime and think of solutions."
