Heartbroken family of boy, 15, killed on Wirral street 'take comfort' from thousands of messages

The family of 15-year-old Jack Jones said they have taken comfort in the thousands of messages and kind words they have received following his death.

Jack, from Woodchurch, was killed after being knocked down on Manor Drive, Upton, on Monday, April 26.

Yesterday evening, Jack's mum Marj Jones took to social media to say thank you to all those who have paid tribute to Jack and lain flowers on Manor Drive.

Posting in the public Facebook group Crimewatch Wirral, she said: "To all those who have sent messages and have had nothing but kind words to say about our son Jack who was sadly and suddenly taken from us in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

"We the family have taken comfort in how loved Jack is and how many people have taken the time to lay flowers and tributes and send their condolences.

"We can’t thank you all enough xxxx"

Her post was flooded with hundreds of messages of people from all over Wirral and beyond offering their sympathies.

One said: "I am so sorry for your loss no mother or family should ever have to go through anything like this. My heart is with you all."

Another said: "I cannot imagine what both you and your family are going through. My deepest condolences to you all."

And another added: "Thank you for taking the time to even put this on here in this horrific situation. No parents should be going through this because of irresponsible people.

"Heartfelt thoughts are with you in your loss of your lovely son Jack xx"

Poignant tributes have been left in Manor Drive in Upton where a 15-year-old boy was killed after a car hit his bicycle in a hit and run (ECHO)

This follows the family's tribute to Jack earlier this week, in which they said: "Jack was a funny, kind and sensitive boy. He loved being with friends and outdoors, just hanging out, being a typical 15-year-old boy.

"He will be hugely missed by everybody, and he was very much loved by all.

"We all love you very much, Jack, you will always be in our heart and thoughts xx."

Yesterday, Leo Meek, 22, of West Way, Moreton, appeared in the dock at Wirral Magistrates' Court and admitted leaving the scene on Monday.

He was not asked to enter a plea to causing death by dangerous driving.

Meek will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court on May 27 and he was remanded in custody until that date.
