Heartbroken family and friends leave floral tributes to 18-year-old cyclist killed in road smash near Horden

Heartbreaking messages and floral tributes have been left after a teen cyclist tragically died in County Durham.

Flowers have been tied lovingly to a lamppost on the A1086 where the 18-year-old man was found with serious injuries.

Paramedics were called after the teen was found between Blackhall and Horden on Friday night but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Sunderland AFC and pictures have also been left at the scene, paying tribute to the young man.

One message reads: “Gone far too soon! Sleep tight, will mess you so much!” while another said: “Will always cherish our great memories”.

A heartbreaking note reads: “Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.”

Hundreds of others have taken to Facebook to pay their respects to the family and express their sorrow.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called at about 10pm on Friday April 17 to the A1086 between Blackhall and Horden, to reports of a cyclist with serious injuries.

"The 18-year-old was treated by paramedics but sadly was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
