Heartbroken dad of three boys given 12 months to live after terminal cancer diagnosis

A heartbroken father of three young children has been given the devastating news he only has up to 12 months to live.

Daniel Scott, 33, of Bulwell, said he never expected doctors to give him a terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis after he complained of weight loss and pain in his back and stomach.

Family members are now desperately trying to raise money to send him and his three boys, aged 13, 5, and 4, to Butlins in Skegness to make some lasting memories before he passes away.

Mr Scott, who is a customer services manager at Coral bookmakers in Clifton, said he had complained about back pain since October last year.

He said doctors originally thought due to his age that it was gastroenteritis or a bad stomach bug, but the pain just got worse.

He was sent to Queen's Medical Centre last month for an ultrasound, followed by a CT scan, which found he had pancreatic cancer and it had spread to his liver as well.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: "I felt like my life had been ripped apart because there is no cure and I am terminal. All I got told is 'to get my finances in order.' It was very shocking.

"It is rare that a 33 year old gets pancreatic cancer. It is usually old people.

"It is just like a rollercoaster. You don't know what to do. It runs through your head all the time.

"It is like a dream. Their dad will be there and then the next minute gone."

His sister Terri Holmes, 26, has set up a fundraising page to take him and the three children to Skegness.

Mr Scott added: "I do not have a lot of money. I have a low income and I don't have a lot of money now because I am not working because of the diagnosis."

Mrs Holmes, a mum of two, added: "They have given him eight to 12 months. It has been crazy and I am the strongest one of the family. I have still not got my head around it to be honest.

"It is a big thing for him to spend time with his kids and he will make memories with them. We are looking at Butlins because everything is in one place."

His former partner Natalie Whittall, 35, of Broxtowe, who is the mum of his three kids, added: "It is heartbreaking.

"The two youngest don't know what is going on. They are just going to wake up one day and he is not going to be here. How do you explain that to babies?

"I want this holiday to make some better memories for them."

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed that Mr Scott was currently receiving treatment at the City Hospital.
