Heartbroken boy, 14, blasts British Airways boss for 'tearing my family apart'

The teenage son of long-serving British Airways workers says the threatened jobs cull is “tearing my family apart”.

Politicians of all parties have condemned plans by the airline and Willie Walsh, chief executive of BA owner IAG, to axe 12,000 staff and rip up the contracts of those who survive.

MPs have called for British Airways to be stripped of prized airport landing slots over its “ethically outrageous” treatment of workers.

Now in a letter seen by the Mirror, 14-year-old Elliot, from Hampshire, blasts Walsh saying: “My parents are extremely stressed at this time, and are experiencing sleepless nights.

"I am sure other families are going through the same thing, as they have now also realised the ruthless actions of Willie Walsh and his team.”

Elliott wrote the letter ahead of Willie Walsh's appearance at the Transport Select Committee last month.

He described his parents as "loyal, hardworking employees of British Airways" who met through BA before marrying and having two children.

He added: "My mum has worked for British Airways for 36 years and my dad for 35 years.

"I know for a fact that they have always, and if given the chance to, will always strive for the best for British Airlines."

The Mirror has been inundated with messages from BA workers, and MPs have received thousands of emails and letters.

One crew member, named Angela, said: “We are feeling grief – grief for an employer and a brand we have loved for so long. We feel betrayed.”

Another said: “Willie Walsh has systematically dismantled our beloved BA.” And another crew member with 20 years’ service branded BA bosses “greedy and ruthless”.
