Heartbreaking tributes to 'good kid' who died in lake during sweltering UK heatwave

Tributes have flooded in for a "good kid' who died in lake during sweltering UK heatwave.

The body of Jay Walker was discovered by emergency services yesterday after an extensive search of the lake area.

Police and fire services arrived at the scene in Doncaster, Yorkshire after being told a man in his 20s had "got into difficulty".

Specialist teams conducted an extensive search to try and find the man and asked people to avoid the area.

A police aircraft was spotted circling the lake for around 20 minutes before the grim discovery was made.

The Facebook page of South Yorkshire Police was quickly filled with heartfelt words after the news Jay's body had been found.

Nathan Lee Heard said: "R.I.P Jay Walker. I’m gonna miss you bro. It’s time for you to fly high now, bro.

"Thanks for everything you did for me. Gonna miss you loads bro, you will always be in my mind and always in my heart."

Mason Connor New said: "RIP Jay man, was a good kid. I know we had our problems here and there but rest in peace brother."

The Mirror reported another tragic death during the heatwave in Hertfordshire on Tuesday.

The teenager was the first person to have drowned in the current heatwave with heat health alert in place for every region of England.

A huge search was launched for the boy who was bathing at North Met Lake and disappeared under the water.

The tragedy has sparked further warnings about the dangers of open water swimming after at least six teenage boys died in water related incidents in the hot weather last month.

Formal identification is yet to take place, however the boy’s next of kin have been informed.

Police, fire crews and paramedics scrambled to the area in Cheshunt just before 5pm on Monday.

Officers confirmed that a body was found approximately six hours later.

A Herts Police spokesperson said: "Emergency Services carried out searches of the area, including the use of the police helicopter and specialist police divers.
