Heartbreaking photo of Nashville school class 20 minutes before mass shooter opened fire

A doctor has shared a heartbreaking photo of a Nashville school class listening to her talk - twenty minutes before the mass shooter killed three 9-year-olds.

Paediatric surgeon Britney Grayson left Covenant School in Nashville, US, at around 10:12am on Monday after she talked about her work in Kenya - and even taught the excited children some Swahili words.

However, just twenty minutes later, mass-shooter Audrey Hale, 28, entered the small religious school and killed three children and three adults during the sickening attack.

Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney, all nine-years-old, were shot dead by the former student.

Cynthia Peak, 61, a substitute teacher, Mike Hill, 61, a janitor, and Katherine Koonce, 60, who was the head of the school, were all also killed in the horrific shooting.

Britney, who was left speechless after finding out about the attack, took to Facebook to explain what happened to her.

She wrote: "Our dear friends invited us to speak at Chapel and stay and visit their girls' classrooms.

"The kids were great. We taught them about life in Kenya, some Swahili words, and what it means to be a missionary.

"We drove away at 10.12am and less than 20 minutes later, at least 3 children were shot right there on the campus.

"There are no words for this feeling. I think the normal feeling is supposed to be relief- relief that we were already gone and our lives are safe.

"But to do what I do makes me literally one of the most qualified people on the planet to help in that situation. Why had we driven away just minutes before? Could I have helped those children if we were still there? I feel guilty for being safe."

The doctor has demanded lawmakers introduce legislation which would prevent mass shootings, however, she is not hopeful any change will be forthcoming.

She added: "But furthermore, WHY ARE OUR CHILDREN BEING MASSACRED IN THEIR SCHOOLS?! I have no idea when this country will have had enough and I'm utterly, completely, totally shocked that, as a nation, we aren't there yet."

Britney revealed she has previously operated on a school shooting victim in the past and had to tell parents their loved ones wouldn't make it.

She said: "I have personally operated on a school shooting victim. I have told too many parents and family members that their loved ones are dead as a result of gun violence. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

"Please join me in praying for healing for these children. Pray for the doctors, nurses, and surgeons caring for them right now."

The doctor believes the children who weren't physically wounded will be forever scarred by the horrendous shooting.

"Pray for all the little hearts that weren't physically wounded but who will never be the same. Pray. Pray. PRAY."
