Heartbreaking note left by child at the scene where man was hit by a train

A heartbreaking note was left at the scene where a man died after being hit by a train.

Emergency services were called to Barkfield Road in Formby , at around 9pm on Thursday night, to reports that a man had been hit by a train.

British Transport Police confirmed that a man in his 30s died at the scene , shortly before Merseyrail services were halted on the line between Freshfield and Formby.

On Friday, a beautiful floral tribute and heartbreaking note were left on the foot bridge that runs over the train tracks at Barkfield Road.

The message, which was penned on pink card and appeared to have been written by a child, simply said: "Love from Evie X X X X X."

Other posts on social media paid tribute to "Ricky" with many sending their thoughts and condolences to his friends and family.

One person, on the ECHO website, said: "RIP Ricky terrible for everyone involved. Thoughts are with his family and friends."

Another said: "Rip Ricky, shine on kid."

On Facebook, a woman said: "So sad to hear the news. Another taken way too young.

"Was only talking to your mum the other week about the mischief we used to get into when we was younger.

"And the pictures of us at birth as we was born on the same day.

"RIP Ricky sleep tight sending love and thoughts to all your family xx."

Tributes left at Barkfield Road after man was hit by a train between Freshfield and Formby

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious and his family have been informed.

A spokesperson for the BTP said: ""At 9pm yesterday evening (28/03) officers were called to the railway close to Formby after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however a man in his 30s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The man's family have been informed. This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

After the incident, many people praised the driver and the guard of the train for their actions before emergency services arrived.

One woman said: "I was on the train with my mum, I want to praise the driver and the guard.

"Both men we brilliant in dealing with such a tragic situation. You need two people to run a train, guard and driver!

"Well done tonight. One person couldn’t have dealt with that situation alone."
