Jane McDonald chokes up at mention of late partner Ed in emotional One Show appearance

Jane McDonald choked up during her appearance on The One Show after reminiscing about her late husband Eddie Rothe and late mother.

The Loose Women panellist's partner Ed died from lung cancer last April at the age of 67 while her mother died in 2018.

She appeared on BBC's The One Show on Thursday to discuss her new travel show, Holidaying with Jane McDonald, which returns tonight on Channel 5.

The series will follow Jane as she jets off to Mexico before visiting Cyprus. A clip was shown where the 59-year-old presenter got the opportunity to release baby turtles.

She said in the show: "I'm calling one Ed and one Jean," before opening up about how emotional she felt about the experience.

Host Ronan Keating asked Jane about the special moment, with Jane responding: "I've just recently lost my partner and my mother at the same time."

She then choked up, before apologising: "Sorry my throat went there, always does when I talk about them.

"I just thought this is new life. Go out. You've just got to think that at the end of something comes something beautiful in new life. That's what we all have to remember."

Eddie was 67 when he died and Jane heartbreakingly revealed his death 'took our future.'

Lung cancer is the third most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer deaths in the UK.

Jane first met the rocker, who was the drummer in The Searchers, at a club in Wakefield back in 1980, and they embarked on a teenage romance, as Jane was just 17 at the time.

However, they parted ways after a few months of dating and didn’t see each other again until they were reunited in 2008, and they quickly struck up a relationship.

During the same year, Eddie got down on one knee to propose to her.

In November last year, Jane revealed she was slowly having more 'good days than bad days'.

"I'm doing so much better and you realise just how important your family and your friends are," Jane admitted on Loose Women.

"And I have more good days now than bad days. And I relish those now. I was very lucky as well. I've always had a very busy life without a partner. So I've been able to just carry on and my fans were just incredible."
