A daughter 'who has played by the rules' has posted heartbreaking footage of her elderly mum during a 'useless' window visit at her care home.
Care worker Anna Cunningham said the video of 83-year-old Maria Czerkawskyj in a distressed state shows the visits are unsuitable for dementia sufferers like her mum.
In the clip Maria is covered by a blanket with family pictures and appears almost unresponsive to her daughter as she can no longer verbally communicate.
Anna, from Edinburgh, told The Mirror: "I've spent nine months being patient biding my time and playing by the rules.
"I have nothing left in life as precious as the time left with mum in the last part of her life."
The 54-year-old told the Daily Record it was 'beyond grief' what families like hers have been put through.
She said: “Mum has vascular dementia and can no longer verbally communicate, so window visits are useless.
“I haven’t been able to visit for nine months and I’m watching her become more and more distressed.
“I’m beyond grief, it’s appalling what my family and other families are being put through.
“Mum is Italian, so English is not her first language.
“Her granddaughter Caitlin, who she adores, has been denied visits.
“We will never get back these precious stolen months of separation.”
Anna has spoken out as students will be able to get tested for coronavirus at a specialist facility ahead of travelling home for Christmas.
Glasgow Caledonian University will launch its testing centre for asymptomatic students tomorrow and it will remain open until December 12.
“Students are being mass tested but care home relatives seem to get ignored – it’s a disgrace," Anna said.
“It’s affecting my mental health.
“This is the last journey of her life and I’m being shut out and forced to watch her suffer through a window.”
On Saturday Public Health England published a new interim list showing care home residents and staff will be given top priority when a vaccine becomes available.
A jab by Pfizer/BioNtech jab could be rolled out in the UK in time for Christmas depending on if and when its approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
