Eagle-eyed BAFTA Awards viewers may have noticed that Richard E. Grant was wearing two watches while presenting at the Royal Festival Hall in London - and there's a heartbreaking reason as to why he chose to make the fashion choice.
Richard, 65, was spotted wearing two watches - one on each wrist - which were visible under his dapper white suit jacket.
The much-loved actor and author received endless praise following his hosting duties alongside This Morning star, Alison Hammond as the duo celebrated the very best in British and Irish Film and TV over the past 12 months.
While watching Richard and Alison in action, some BAFTA viewers were left wondering why Richard chose to wear two watches on his wrists, and as it turns out, it's all to do with his dual-citizenship.
Richard is a citizen of both the UK and Eswatini and the actor chooses to wear a watch set each time zone on each of his wrists.
The first watch is set to Greenwich Meantime (GMT), and the second, which was gifted to him by his late father, is permanently set to Swaziland time.
The actor's father, Henrik Esterhuysen, sadly passed away from lung cancer at the age of 52 when he was 24.
Speaking of his dad's sad death, Richard previously said: "It is a recurring regret that he never lived to see me succeed beyond university and drama."
It comes after Richard became emotional and struggled to hold back tears as he introduced the in memoriam section of the BAFTA ceremony to remember those in the film industry who died in the last 12 months.
Introducing the tribute, he said: "Tonight is celebration of film in all its mad, sad, funny, frightening, thought-provoking forms.
"Let's take this opportunity to pay tribute to those members of the global film community that we sadly lost over the last 12 months."
As he struggled to hold back tears, Richard's voice broke as he added: "I'm sorry."
"Their impact lives on," he continued. "Let's take a moment to remember them now."
Richard's wife Joan Washington, a voice coach to celebrities including Penelope Cruz and Jessica Chastain, died in September 2021 after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Richard said “their impact lives on in film” before names include Dame Angela Lansbury, Dame Olivia Newton-John, Sylvia Syms, Robbie Coltrane and Burt Bacharach appeared on screen.
After the segment, Richard added that “their legacies will live on”.
Richard, had been married to the dialect coach for 35 years and they were together for a total of 38.
She died eight months after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.
