Heartbreaking kids' tributes after dad inmate dies in Dublin prison incident

Tributes have been paid by the heartbroken children of a dad who died in a Dublin prison in September.

Ivan Rosney died following an incident at Cloverhill Prison in Clondalkin on September 26.

The 36-year-old, dad-of-four - who had suffered from mental health issues since his early 20s - was living with his family in Offaly before he was imprisoned.

He was arrested for breaking a barring order when he became physically aggressive with his father and was being held in Cloverhill for the breach.

His exact cause of death has not yet been released with officers saying the post mortem will determine the direction of the investigation which the Irish Prison Service is also probing.

Ivan's children took to social media expressing their grief at losing their beloved dad so suddenly.

One daughter said: "Forever in my heart I love you so much daddy. It never gets easier but I know nanny is looking after you up there and all your pain and worry is in the hands of god now.

"I miss our chats and the feeling of your warm arms around me when you give me a hug. I miss the 'I love yous' and the 'don’t forget to call up again now pet'.

"I miss walking through the door and you saying hello my beautiful girl and me getting embarrassed and saying hello daddy how are you.

"I miss the phone calls when things aren't going my way and just listening to your advice and trying to be a better person.

"Everything we ever talked about will forever be in my mind when things get tough. You're my angel now and once I was yours, never in a million years did I ever think I’d lose my best friend.

"I’ll always miss and love you, look down on us all and help me get through this cause right now, it seems impossible but I’ll always put a smile on my face thinking of you."

Ivan's son, who is only 15, said his dad told him on a daily basis how much he loved him.

He added: "He was a man who always text me day in, day out saying he loved me and saying how much I meant to him.

"Only two weeks before he died, he hugged me and told me he loved me and said he would always have my back through anything.

He added: "He was not only my best friend but he was my daddy."

And another of his daughters posted the above which was "the last ever picture I got with my dad".

She said: "You are the most caring and loving man and we will forever miss you and I am always going to be your 'little girl'."

A Garda spokesman said about the incident: "We are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death of a male inmate at Cloverhill Prison yesterday afternoon, 28th September 2020.

"A Post Mortem is due to take place which will determine the course of the investigation."
