'Heartbreaking' footage shows horse being dragged and kicked inside traveller camp

Shocking footage has emerged of a horse being dragged by the neck and kicked in the head inside a traveller encampment.

The video given to Nottinghamshire Live was taken on Monday shortly after a large group arrived in Radcliffe-on-Trent.

Dozens of caravans and vans are currently on the sports fields at the junction of the A52 and Bingham Road.

The land belongs to the  South Nottinghamshire Academy and local residents have described what it is like living next to the camp.

One person, who did not wish to be named, said: "We are at our wits' end and have been sickened by the behaviour.

"The horse was dragged by a rope around the neck and was then kicked in the head. It is heartbreaking.

"We have called the RSPCA and they have opened a case and are taking it seriously but they won't come down without the police.

"We have also seen them swing a dog around by the neck too.

"Fires are being lit and there is constant shouting and swearing."

Nottinghamshire Live approached the travellers on Saturday morning but no one was willing to talk.

A spokesman from Nottinghamshire Police said: "Nottinghamshire Police has been made aware of an unauthorised encampment at a school playing field on Bingham Road in Radcliffe upon Trent.

"The Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Team has been in the area to engage with and respond to any concerns from both the local and travelling communities."
