Heartbreaking family tribute as 'beautiful' little Dublin child who tragically died is laid to rest

A heartbroken family has paid tribute to their 'beautiful' little Dublin tot who tragically died this week as her funeral arrangements have been announced.

Brave Zoe O'Mahoney of 'Zoe's Magic Wand' sadly died after a long battle with a rare and aggressive brain tumour.

The little princess - described by distraught mum and dad Carmel and Alan as being a "bright, beautiful and brave girl who loved reading books, singing and wearing pretty dresses" - died in her parents' arms in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Zoe will have a private funeral on Monday, July 6 with her funeral cortege passing her home at 2pm before the service.

The funeral service will also be live on webcam from 2:30pm with the family asking for family flowers only and donations to Aoife's Clown Doctors if desired.

In July of last year, mum and dad Carmel and Alan and sister Holly received the devastating news that Zoe was sick, undergoing several surgeries since to remove the malignant brain tumour.

A GoFundMe was set up in August for her titled 'Zoe's Magic Wand' to help her family raise funds for Proton Therapy in Germany.

But, Zoe wasn't going to let the tumour beat her and left on her own terms as her parents put it - developing a chest infection that she sadly just could not fight off.

Her parents said they are heartbroken but know that their Zoe had had enough.

They announced the tragic news on the Zoe's Magic Wand page, thanking Crumlin Hospital for all their hard work also.

They said: "Our beautiful brave little Zoe passed away in our arms at 02:44 on Wednesday morning.

"She decided that she wasn't going to let a tumour beat her and she was leaving on her own terms.

"She developed a chest infection that neither she nor antibiotics could fight.

"Her passing was peaceful and dignified and she didn't suffer."

They continued: "Through the empathy and dedication of the combined staff of St John's and St Anne's wards in Crumlin Hospital, Zoe (and us) were treated with unfathomable kindness.

"They took over in the background and let us just be Mammy and Daddy.

"We are heartbroken beyond words but we know she had enough.

"We love you to the moon and back sweetheart and we'll miss you forever."

Her notice on RIP.ie reads: "O'MAHONEY, Zoe (Swords) - July 1st, 2020 (peacefully) under the care of the medical and nursing staff at Our Lady's Childrens Hospital, Crumlin.

"Beloved daughter of Alan and Carmel and sister of baby Holly. Sadly missed by her loving parents, sister, grandparents John, Catherine, Margaret and Fred, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives and friends. May She Rest In Peace.

"Due to government advice regarding public gatherings, a private funeral will take place on Monday (July 6th). The funeral cortege will drive past Zoe's home at 2 p.m. en route to the funeral service. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired to Aoife's Clown Doctors. You can view the funeral service live on webcam from 2.30 p.m."
