Heartbreaking 43-year-old mystery of missing mum who left home in 1977 was never seen again

It's 43 years since Margaret Moody kids last saw their mum - and not a day goes by when they don't miss her.

It was 1977 and the 31-year-old was married with seven young kids and living in Clapperhow Road, Motherwell.

After a row with her husband, Margaret - who would have celebrated her 74th birthday this week - walked out of the house never to be seen again.

As the years passed, the family never gave up hope that one day she'd walk back into their lives as suddenly as she left.

But sadly husband David died without ever knowing what happened to his wife, as did her eldest son Jim, who lost his fight with leukaemia at just 28.

Now this week Archie, one of Margaret's five sons, hopes the enormous reach of social media and the internet might help his family find answers to the mystery that's haunted their entire lives.

Posting on Missing People Scotland, he explained: "1977 was a different time, I hope technology will help trace my mother.

"My dad was not long home from hospital, but he passed not knowing what happened to his wife, we have sadly had no sighting or any word as to why she went out that night.

"We all hope that one day there will be word that she's been found dead or alive, we just just need to know."

David tried his best to raise Jim, John, Robert, Archie, Richard, Pearl and Pamela - who was little more than a baby - without their mum, but life was tough and they all struggled.

At 5ft 8ins Margaret was tall and good looking with distinctive shoulder-length red hair.

However, Archie says his family was poor and doesn't believe Margaret's disappearance was investigated thoroughly enough at the time.

And he insists he'll never give up trying to find out what happened to his mum after she kissed them goodnight and walked out of their lives forever.

He added: "I'll love my mum till my last breath and I'll keep looking for answers as this is not the end."
