Heartbreak for Princess Anne as mourners note she 'can't take her eyes off coffin'

Mourners watching the Queen's funeral today said how much they felt for Princess Anne as she stared at her mother's coffin and refrained from singing.

They also praised the Princess Royal for how she has handled the past few days, My London reports.

Writing on Twitter one said: "Every mother deserves a daughter" like her.

Anne walked behind the coffin alongside her brothers, King Charles III, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex.

She then sat in the front row of the congregation for the service at Westminster Abbey.

Dressed in her Royal Navy uniform, with 11 medals, Anne, 72, looked sad yet composed.

She had been with her mother's coffin for much of the time since she died, accompanying it on its journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh, and then to London.

One Twitter user posted: "Just watched a few minutes of the funeral, Princess Anne didn't sing she was just staring at her mother's coffin.

"I remember that feeling at my Mum's funeral, I couldn't take my eyes off her coffin. Genuinely sorry for the Royal Family today."

Others also praised the Princess Royal for how she handled the funeral, as well as the past few days.

One wrote: "Every mother deserves a daughter like Princess Anne.

"I'm amazed to see the Queen's children marching behind her coffin for more than an hour at this age."

Meanwhile another tweeted: "A word for Princess Anne. One of the hardest few weeks of her life and hasn't put a foot wrong.

"Takes after her mother."

"She looks tough and dignified. She is absolutely a role model!"

Another praised the royal, saying: "Respect tweet for princess Anne.

"Woman has shown nothing but grace and dignity throughout. What an outstanding woman."

Many social media users also wrote about their heartbreak over seeing William and Harry in such emotional pain.

Another royal fan tweeted: "Sobbing my eyes out. Not so much that the Queen has passed away.

"I loved her, but she was 96 and had such a wonderful life.

"But at William and Harry, who are having to do this all over again. It must be so triggering."

"So sad to see William and Harry looking so so upset," another echoed.

"This all just brings me back to Princess Diana's funeral in 1997. Those boys have the exact same look on their faces. I feel for them so much," someone else wrote.
