Heartbreak at death of young ballet dancer described as 'the next Billy Elliot'

Tributes are being paid to a talented young dancer described as 'the next Billy Elliot' who died suddenly at the age of 14.

Ballet star Jack Burns passed away at his family home in Greenock, Inverclyde in Scotland on December 1.

Police are not treating the talented schoolboy's death as suspicious.

At nine years old, he won a place at a prestigious Glasgow ballet school which was followed by a role in hit series Outlander at the age of 14.

In addition to appearing in ITV thriller In Plain Sight alongside Martin Compston, he shared the stage with Duncan from Blue when they performed in Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

The Daily Record reported that Jack also starred in the BBC One show ‘One of Us’ and the CBBC show ‘Eve’.

Now friends and family have paid tribute to the young talent.

The Elite Academy of Dance, where Jack practiced, wrote on Facebook: "It is with a very heavy heart that we write this post.

"Tragically as you know we lost our much loved student Jack Burns on Sunday 1st of December.

"Jack was an inspiration to everyone at Elite and touched the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of working and dancing with him since 2012.

"We, and all of Jack's family and friends, are naturally completely devastated and at a loss for words and answers."

Another person said: "Your parents/family/friends must be so unbelievably proud of you and what you've achieved.

"What an amazing person and to do what makes you happy and be you, no matter what, takes such rare courage that a lot of us don't have.

He was called 'the next Billy Elliot'. (Facebook)

"Dance away up there wee man, the stars will shine far brighter."

Another second person wrote on Facebook: "What a handsome talented boy.. Can't even begin to imagine what your family are going through... Dance on beautiful boy."

Another added: "Jack was such an amazing boy and he did not deserve the stuff he went through.

"He never ever wanted to hurt anyone, there was not a bad bone in his body.

"All he did was make everyone smile.

"I'm absolutely heart broken that I have lost someone who meant so much to me and many more people."

The youngster, who attended St Columba's School in Kilmacolm, leaves behind his mum, Karen, dad, Robert, and brother, Rory.
