Heartbreak as 'little rock star', 9, dies 'out of the blue' hours after falling ill

Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to a nine-year-old "little rock star" who died suddenly from a bleed on the brain.

Harvey Grove became unwell on August 7 and was later diagnosed with a ruptured blood vessel.

The blue-eyed boy was rushed into hospital for emergency surgery but nothing could be done to save the popular lad.

Harvey passed away with parents Rhian, 37, and Phill Grove, 39, by his side just hours after he first fell ill.

His devastated mum said he and dad Phill were like "two peas in a pod", WalesOnline reports.

Harvey was a member of The Rock Project, which helps teach young people music skills and how to perform as part of a band, where he was said to have made a big impact.

A JustGiving page has been set up by Rhian's colleagues at Singleton Hospital in Swansea to raise money for the family, with more than £10,000 already in the pot.

Mum Rhian said: "Harvey became unwell suddenly on Saturday morning so was taken to Morriston A&E where they did a CT head to determine what was happening.

“It was then they discovered he had a bleed on the brain from a ruptured blood vessel which we had no control over.

“They decided he needed to be transferred to the children's ITU in Cardiff where the neurosurgeons tried to drain the blood.

“However, it was unsuccessful and Harvey passed away peacefully with us all by his side."

Writing on the page, Rhian's colleagues said: "As friends and colleagues of Rhian we are all devastated over the sudden and tragic loss of Harvey.

“No-one can comprehend or begin to imagine what it is like to suffer the loss of a child.

"Rhian and her husband Phill are inevitably heartbroken over the loss of their 9-year-old son.

"Rhian has always spoken so lovingly of her blue-eyed boy and his love for rugby, karate, guitars and the school of rock.

“We would be grateful if you could keep the Grove family in your thoughts and prayers.

"As a team it is difficult to know what to say or do to support the family. Therefore, we kindly ask for any donation possible to help ease financial pressures in this difficult time."

A friend of Rhian said the death of Harvey was "out of the blue", adding: "Obviously they (Harvey's parents) are absolutely devastated, they are in absolute shock to be honest. He was absolutely fine up until it happened.

"Nothing will bring Harvey back but the worry of finances is something they hopefully won't have to think about now, a few of us had the idea at the same time and set it up (fundraiser) straight away.”
