Heartbreak as Irish husband and wife pass away within just days of each other

A husband and wife from Galway who “suddenly” died within days of each other are to be buried together “side by side” this week.

Grandparents Michael and Mary Davison from Ballygarraun, Kilchreest, both passed away in University Hospital Galway this week, within three days of each other.

Michael died on Wednesday, December 8 with his wife Mary passing away shortly after on Saturday, December 11.

The “gentle and good-natured couple” leave behind a “heartbroken” family of three children, son Brendan and daughters Catriona and Sarah, along with three grandchildren and other members of extended family.

Their funeral will take place at 11am on Wednesday December 15th at the Church of the Nativity, Kilchreest, and they will be buried together afterwards at Kilchreest New Cemetery.

Tributes poured in from friends online, with one mourner writing: “Deepest sympathies to the Davison family on the sad passing of Mary and Michael. We will always have fond memories of a gentle and good natured couple. May they rest in peace together forever.”

Another wrote: “Sincere sympathy to the Davison family, the Herlihy & Burke family & extended families on the very sad and sudden passing of Michael & Mary, may their gentle souls rest in peace.”

A heartbreaking post on RIP.ie reads: “Michael and Mary passed peacefully from this life, on the 8th and 11th of December respectively, in the care of UCHG.

“Predeceased by Mary’s brother Liam, Michael and Mary will be deeply mourned by their heartbroken son Brendan, daughters Catriona and Sarah, daughter in law Jenna, son in law Chris, grandchildren Grace, Niamh and Saoirse, Mary's brothers David and Donal, sister Veronica, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends.

“Michael and Mary’s funeral cortège will leave their home on Wednesday at 10am to make its way to the Church of the Nativity, Kilchreest. Neighbours and friends are invited, if they desire, to stand along the route to offer their support to the family at this difficult time. Mass will be celebrated for their souls at 11am and will be streamed [online].

“The funeral will continue to Kilchreest New Cemetery where Michael and Mary will be laid to rest side by side.”
