Heartbreak as fatal Waterford crash kills dad of young son months after mother died

A Waterford community is in a state of shock after a young father was killed in a car crash just months after his partner died.

Eoin Sheehan, 30s, was killed in a fatal traffic accident on Sunday morning when his motorbike hit a wall in Ballymacarbry, near Dungarvan.

Cappagh man Eoin was pronounced dead at the scene with Dungarvan gardai appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Mr Sheehan's partner Lucia Healy died just 7 months ago after being diagnosed with cancer just weeks beforehand.

The community has been left heartbroken by the passing of the pair in such a quick period of time, leaving behind a two-year-old son.

Tributes have been paid to the engineering company owner after his untimely passing.

A spokesperson for local GAA club St Mary's said: "The club would like to offer their most sincere sympathies to the family, friends and work colleagues of the late Eoin Sheehan after his tragic passing yesterday.

"Eoin was co owner of Dungarvan Precision Engineering, sponsors of St. Mary's hurling club. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.

"Unfortunately, the funeral will be a private affair in accordance with HSE guidelines but a memorial service will be held at a later date. Rest in Peace Eoin."

While the owner of the local shop Healy's Daybreak said the whole are has been left "heartbroken".

They said: "We have been rocked with great sadness yet again by the sudden passing of Eoin Sheehan our community has been left heartbroken.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and all those who mourn Eoin at this very sad time may he rest in peace reunited once more with his beloved Lucia."

Hundreds of people have left condolences on website Rip.ie describing Eoin as a "great guy gone too soon."

A private funeral will take place due to government guidelines amid the coronavirus outbreak with a memorial to take place at a future date.

The family said: "There will be a private family funeral. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

"Due to recent H.S.E. guidelines regarding funeral gatherings, Eoin’s funeral will take place privately."
