West Midlands Police said he was crossing the road with his family when the tragedy happened.

The Polo driver was detained at the scene and was in custody. The road was closed as an investigation began.

“This is a parent’s worst nightmare and it’s impossible to imagine their grief, but specialist officers will be supporting them as our investigation continues."
