'Heartbreak' after man pulled from park lake in Boxing Day tragedy

A man's body being pulled from the lake of a Liverpool park on Boxing Day has sparked numerous heartfelt tributes.

The man was rescued from the water and given CPR, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

An air ambulance crew landed at Walton Hall Park just before 9am today ( Sunday) following the discovery.

Merseyside Police said an investigation is currently underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the surrounding area.

There was a major police presence at the park earlier today.

The lake, which forms part of the 130 acre park, is popular with anglers.

Now members of the public, some of whom live near the park, have spoken of their sadness at the news of the death.

Tracy Perry said: "Heard the helicopter this morning and wondered what had happened. So sad."

Ann Mannion: "How very sad thoughts with this man’s family and friends."

Lynne Morgan said: "So sad thinking of this poor man’s family and friends."

Paula Nuttall said: "Sad, right by our house. Thinking of all his family."

Sharon Shazza Bond: "Thinking of his family at this sad time."

Paula Rance said: "So sad we’re is this rip to the man thinking of his family at this sad time."

Police released a statement earlier today which read: "We can confirm officers are today, Sunday, December 26, at Walton Hall park in Liverpool.

“Emergency services were contacted at just before 9am following reports that the body of a male had been discovered in the lake.

“The male was removed and CPR commenced but he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and notify his next of kin.”

Police are undertaking witness and CCTV inquiries and have urged anyone with details about what happened to contact officers by calling 101 or via Twitter (@MerPolCC).
