Heart-wrenching post about dogs ageing resurfaces and dog lovers can't cope

There's nothing quite like the bond between a dog and its owner and we just wish our furry friends could live as long as we do.

It's never easy realising that your pooch is getting older and that one day they might not be around to keep you company anymore.

This feeling was perfectly captured in a Facebook post from 2019 on the Juniper Fox page.

The heart-wrenching post recently resurfaced and has been shared by dog lovers who found the thought of their pets ageing, almost too much to cope with.

It reads: "No one tells you how quickly dogs age. How one day you wake up and suddenly their face is all white, how their eyes start to seem more milky than before, how you have to call their name a few more times than you used to.

"People tell you not to blink when you have children, but what about the dog who was with you before your children were even thought of? The dog who was by your side before you found the love of your life, the dog who jumped from apartment to apartment in your early 20’s. No one tell’s you to cherish every moment you have with them…

"Cherish the dog. The one who’s been there through every break up and every dumb fight with your best friend. That dog who slept in the bed with you when you were lonely and made you feel safe when you left home.

"Cherish him, because one day you’ll take him on a walk and he’ll start to get tired before you and you’ll realize just how many years he’s been walking by your side."

More than 113,000 people have shared the post, with thousands liking and commenting on it.

Many people shared their own stories about their beloved dogs - and it's so sweet.

One person said: "Dogs don’t get nearly as much time on this earth as they deserve. It makes every moment infinitely more important."

Another wrote: "Our sweet Monty passed away two weeks ago. He gave us 15 years of happy love and we did love on him every day, knowing his time with us would always be too short."

Someone else replied: "My Sofia will be 17 on Sat. You don’t realize that there will be so many lasts -last walks, last time she’s able to walk up the stairs, or jump off the couch. We adapt but watching her hurt, seeing her personality fade. It’s so hard. I appreciate every day I have with her."

A different user added: "My baby dog, Milo. He just turned five. I’m afraid when he dies my heart will just snap in half. Makes me cry just thinking about it."

Right, after reading that, we think it's time to go give the dog a cuddle... don't you?!
