Heart-stopping moment runaway pony caught in trap goes on rampage in Scots street

Shocked residents in a quiet housing estate watched as a runaway pony pulling an upended trap caused mayhem in the streets.

Parked cars were sideswiped while others narrowly avoided damage in the rampage captured on video in Hurlford, near Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

At one point, the pony seems to be thinking about jumping over the bonnet of a car parked in a driveway, before galloping away.

Local man Bert Salisbury was about to pick up his mail when he realised something was very wrong.

Mr Salisbury, 53, said: “I heard the postman putting letters through the door then this almighty racket.

“I looked up and saw this horse’s backside through the window and was totally shocked. It only just missed my car. My sister joked that she thought I maybe backed it in the races at Ayr and it was still running.”

The pony is believed to have escaped from a yard at a house nearby. The incident was captured on CCTV from a house in Richardson Avenue in Hurlford.

A young woman living nearby, who refused to give her name, said the pony was hers but would not discuss the incident.

She said: “I was up all night stressed and crying about folk talking about it in this village.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We received a report of a horse having damaged vehicles on Sherwood Road in Hurlford at 2.15pm on Thursday. Suitable advice was given to the caller.”
