Heart-stopping moment reckless driver overtakes seven vehicles before narrowly avoiding crash on Scots road

Heart-stopping footage shows the moment a reckless driver overtook seven vehicles before narrowly missing oncoming traffic on approach to a blind summit.

The incident happened on Friday August 13 at 7.47am on the A91 in Guardbridge, Fife.

Road Safety experts have suggested a Police investigation may bring home the costs of such actions to the driver.

The clip begins with the camera car last in a line of vehicles behind a tractor and trailer on approach to the River Eden Bridge.

Once all drivers have begun to cross the bridge a silver Ford Mondeo comes into view at speed, overtaking the dash cam vehicle.

The unidentified driver proceeds to overtake seven vehicles including the tractor over a distance of 200 metres (656.7ft).

As the vehicle reaches the brow of the hill the driver of an oncoming car, followed by an HGV, flashes their lights as he pulls in front of the tractor narrowly avoiding a collision.

The driver of the dash cam car, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “This wasn’t the first time I have come across this driver and his dangerous overtaking.

“However this time Friday 13th is clearly your unlucky day Mondeo numpty man.

“Maybe it’s time for your driving license to be revoked before you end up in jail for killing some poor person whilst at the wheel.”

Also commenting on the clip, a user wrote: “If not done so already, that footage needs to go to the police.

“That’s a head on crash with fatalities in the making.”

Another added: “He must of gone on wrong side of traffic island to get passed as fast as he did.”

Edmund King, AA president, said: “This driver seemed determined to overtake the line of vehicles and tractor at all costs.

“A police investigation may well bring home to the driver that such actions do carry financial costs, and any driver should be aware of the potentially devastating costs of this sort of driving.”

Police Scotland could not find any record of the incident being reported to them.
