Heart-stopping footage shows car skid off Scots road after 'idiot' driver attempts to overtake lorry

Shocking video shows a car skid into a ditch after being forced to avoid an oncoming vehicle attempting to overtake a lorry on a single carriageway.

The short clip captures the moment the dashcam driver was forced to swerve out of the path of a reckless driver on Monday.

The motorist was driving along the A87 near Invergarry, Scottish Highlands when the terrifying incident occurred.

The footage shows the dashcam driver driving around 50 miles per hour on the dark road in the wet weather.

Suddenly, two bright lights can be seen coming from the distance.

As the lights draw closer it becomes apparent that the vehicle is a huge lorry, flanked by a car attempting to overtake it.

As the vehicles pass, the dashcam driver is forced to swerve violently to avoid a head collision.

The car then takes a dramatic turn, missing the overtaking vehicle and the lorry before it spins out of control.

It then slides down the side of the road before hitting the bollards and eventually coming to a stop.

The short clip was uploaded to Facebook by the dashcam driver’s friend, Ray Lamont, who shared the clip on Monday in a warning to other motorists.

He wrote alongside the clip: “Please folk be careful on the roads

"Unfortunately this happened to a family friend yesterday en route home from Inverness, neither car or lorry stopped following this incident.

“Everyone was okay (apart from the car!), but it highlights the dangers of being on the roads especially at this time of year.

The dramatic clip has terrified social media users.

Ali MacKay wrote under Ray’s post: “Near misses like this are far too common on the roads, folk too keen to get ahead and take chances.”

Tiffany Celeste Maberley said: “Scary.”

William Beedie commented: "You would think cars would be slower on that stretch of road mainly due to deer along that part of the road.”

And Walt Millar said: “Idiot.”
