Flowers and notes were left in tribute to a man who died after being hit by a train.
Emergency services were called to the area near Freshfield Station at around 10pm on Tuesday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
On Wednesday, police confirmed that the man, in his 30s, had sadly died and his next of kin had been informed,
Services were suspended on the line between Hall Road and Southport while police and paramedics dealt with the incident and resumed the next morning.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO that the incident was not being treated as suspicious and a file would be prepared for the coroner.
Hundreds of people on social media posted tributes to the person and shared message of support with their family.
Many also reflected on the trauma of the train driver who was onboard at the time of the incident.
Di Draper said: "So very sad, R.I.P and condolences to the family.
"Thoughts also for the driver who has to deal with the emotional trauma."
Dannielle Courtney also said: "This is awful. My heart breaks.

"Thoughts to the family and driver."
Rose Rose added: "So Sad.
"R I P to the person who as died and deepest sympathy to their family and friends."
Outside Freshfield Station on Wednesday, loved ones of the person who was killed laid down bouquets of flowers.

A note was also left inside a purple envelope that was signed with a heart by one person.
On the ECHO website, many readers also shared their condolences with everyone involved,
Luvcat said: "Condolences to the the family.
"The man's troubles are over but his family’s are just beginning. So sad."
