‘Heart-related’ issue caused Bob Odenkirk collapse, rep says

“Better Call Saul” star Bob Odenkirk is in stable condition after being hospitalized following a collapse on the show’s New Mexico set on Tuesday.

The “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” star’s collapse was due to a “heart-related” issue, his representatives told USA TODAY in a statement.

“He and his family would like to express gratitude for the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, as well as his cast, crew and producers who have stayed by his side,” the statement said. “The Odenkirks would also like to thank everyone for the outpouring of well wishes and ask for their privacy at this time as Bob works on his recovery.”

“He’s going to be okay,” Nate Odenkirk wrote on Twitter Wednesday of his father. The update prompted “Better Call Saul” star Michael McKean, who plays Odenkirk’s brother, to respond, “Thanks, Nate. Love him up good, hear?”

“Saul,” an AMC series now shooting its sixth and final season, tells the origin story of Saul Goodman, the oily lawyer Odenkirk played on “Breaking Bad.” On the prequel show, he initially practices under his real name, Jimmy McGill.

Odenkirk, 58, grew up in Naperville and graduated from Naperville North High School. He became active in Chicago’s improv scene and went on to write for “Saturday Night Live,” where he won his first Emmy.

Later he played a recurring role on HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show” and starred on the seminal HBO sketch series “Mr. Show” with David Cross.
