Heart radio newsreader accidentally announces David Cameron's death instead of David Bowie

A lot of people waking up to the news of David Bowie’s death this morning took to Twitter to say they hoped it wasn’t true.

And their wishes were momentarily granted by a radio newsreader, who announced the death of David Cameron instead.

Reading out the morning bulletins for Heart FM Radio, reporter Fiona Winchester began by saying: “David Cameron has died.”

Her recovery was quick, after a stutter, going on to say: “David Bowie has died after a secret 18-month battle with cancer. He was 69.”

The confusion may have stemmed from the fact that she went on to quote the Prime Minister’s reaction to the news.

Mr Cameron wrote: “I grew up listening to and watching the pop genius David Bowie. He was a master of re-invention, who kept getting it right. A huge loss.”

But it was too late, and listeners were quick to write their amused responses on social media.
