Capital North East listeners were left gutted at the start of the month when presenters Bodg, Matt and Hannah took to the airwaves for the final time and now the news is officially out that Heart North East is being axed too.
Global Radio, who own Capital, Heart and Smooth, are nationalising many of its shows, meaning that Heart's breakfast show will go the same way as Capital's and be broadcast from London.
Newcastle born DJ Vick Hope is one of the Capital breakfast presenting team and it's now been confirmed that Amanda Holden will soon join Jamie Theakston to be the voices Heart Breakfast listeners across the country wake up to every weekday morning.
That means it's goodbye to Heart North East presenting duo Justin Lockwood and Kelly Scott, who've been entertaining many Geordies from 6 - 10am for the past seven years from their studio at Wellbar Central in the heart of Newcastle.
Confirming her departure, Kelly tweeted "So its all change at Heart North East ...After 7 years together you only have to put up with me and Lockers75 for another 4 weeks then the professionals are taking over....knew we'd get found out eventually # BeenABlast # ThankYou ."
Justin added "So the news is out... it’s goodbye from us at the end of May. Be honest though... you’d rather wake up with Amanda Holden eh!"
Heart North East listeners were quick to react to the news and they're all absolutely gutted.
Commenting on Kelly's tweet, one listeners wrote "Gutted and bad decision by Heart. You guys are amazing and the best on the radio," and echoing those sentiments, another wrote "My mornings will never be the same without you and Justin."
Reacting to Justin's post, one fan ranted "Disappointed to see this, hate it when Radio stations take away local interaction. That’s the reason we tune in," and another added "Listened for years so gutted with this news. Local radio is slowly being killed off."
