'Heart breaks for Bristol': Carol Vorderman gives her verdict on Balloon Fiesta

TV host Carol Vorderman says her 'heart breaks for Bristol' after bad weather forced organisers of the Bristol Balloon Fiesta to cancel several mass ascents.

On Thursday morning, a mass ascent kicked off the fiesta in spectacular style, with nearly 60 balloons, including special shapes, set off from Ashton Court  floating beautifully over Bristol.

However, since then things have taken a turn for the worse as strong winds and heavy rain battered Bristol during the weekend.

Firstly, both of Friday's mass ascents scheduled were cancelled due to the dismal conditions.

Organisers then temporarily closed the fiesta site completely on Saturday (August 10) due to strong gusts.

BREAKING: Fiesta makes new plan for Sunday evening as ascent axed

In a post on Twitter, she described the balloon fiesta was 'one the most stunning things to see anywhere'.

"My heart breaks for the wonderful people of Bristol @Bristolballoon Fiesta," she said.

"The city is full but crazy winds and heavy rain have stopped the balloons going up so far.

"We're all crossing fingers for tonight's mass ascent. It's one of the most stunning things to see anywhere."

Organisers have said the fiesta site will not reopen until 10am today (August 11) and a decision on this evening's mass ascent not yet been made.

The former Countdown star lives in Bristol and also has a private pilot's licence.
