Hearse catches fire on North Ayrshire street leading to emergency response

A hearse caught fire on a North Ayrshire street yesterday afternoon.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were summoned at 3.50pm to attend the incident which took place in Stevenston.

The vehicle came to grief on the town's Glencairn Terrace, close to the junction with Glencairn Gardens.

Crew members used one hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze and contacted police who headed to the scene. It's understood no one was injured.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service of a vehicle on fire on Glencairn Terrace in Stevenson around 4.15pm on Friday, February 19.

"Officers assisted with traffic management until the vehicle was recovered."
