Hearing for Patriots CB Jack Jones postponed ahead of Green Bay trip

New England Patriots second-year cornerback Jack Jones had his Aug. 18 court hearing postponed on Tuesday, per NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry, via the East Boston Municipal Court.

Per Perry, Jones’ new hearing has been rescheduled for Sept. 15, which is two days before the Patriots’ Week 2 regular season home game against the Miami Dolphins.

The team flew to Green Bay on Tuesday for joint practices scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. With the hearing rescheduled, Jones was able to make the road trip and fly out with the team, according to Perry.

Back in June, the Patriots defender was arrested and released on $30,000 bail for allegedly attempting to board a flight with firearms. He faces two counts of the following charges: possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport; possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card; unlawful possession of a firearm; carrying a loaded firearm; and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

Sportico legal expert Michael McCann wonders if a plea deal could potentially be in the works for Jones’ situation.

The Patriots could certainly use Jack Jones’ presence in a defensive backfield that also has rookie first-round draft pick Christian Gonzalez, veteran Jonathan Jones and second-year cornerback Marcus Jones.

Things get a bit murky further down the depth chart.
