Hear works of three master composers

San Jittakarn.

The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra will take music lovers to explore the power of the orchestra in a classical programme of works by three of history's most renowned composers of orchestral music.

The "Wagner, Mozart & Elgar" concert will be held in the Prince Mahidol Hall of Mahidol University, Salaya campus, tomorrow at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm.

Richard Wagner's Prelude to his opera Die Meistersinger Von Nürnberg depicts a light-hearted tale about historical German singers and their singing contests by bringing older musical styles into the present in a rousing fashion. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Concerto In D Minor is a fiery work that Ludwig van Beethoven reportedly performed with breathtaking skill and expression.

This dazzling piece will be performed by Thai piano prodigy San Jittakarn who was called "an unpredictable, touching pianist" by Crescendo Magazine.

The programme will conclude with the emotionally moving Symphony No.1 by the English composer Edward Elgar, a phenomenally popular piece that achieved 100 performances worldwide within just over a year of its premiere.

Conducting the orchestra on both shows will be Jonathan Mann, who is in demand as both performer and music educator. He is currently music director of UK-based Ensemble Cambrica and artistic director of the Immanuel Orchestra of the Music for Life Foundation in Thailand.

Tickets cost 400, 600, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 baht (half prices for students) and can be purchased at the box office (call 02-849-6565 ext 6604 or 6609) and Thai Ticket Major outlets (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456).

There is a Salaya Link shuttle bus available at BTS Bang Wa station. For the schedule, visit music.mahidol.ac.th/salayalink.
