Hear what Kiefer Sutherland had to say about Greggs during his North East gig

As Jack Bauer, he might have always played it cool but actor Kiefer Sutherland could not help getting excited about one particular local attraction on his North East visit at the weekend.

The star of US drama 24 was at Sage Gateshead on Sunday in his other guise: as accomplished musician and songwriter who - joined by his bandmates - proved a hit with audiences at Sage Gateshead on the last night of the SummerTyne Americana festival.

And, in a brief break from the country music action - while a guitar had to be re-tuned - he told the audience that he'd tell them a story: and it turned out to be about Greggs .

Sutherland, who had previously spoken on The One Show about his fondness for a Greggs sausage roll , explained how his band were extra excited when they arrived in the region to discover that it was the baker's home city.

That was "something you should be very proud of", he told the audience.

Revealing that the band always "go to a Greggs and find a good pub" whenever they play an England town, he said crew members who have other commitments  are always sorry to miss out on the savoury treat when they cannot join the tour.

And he told how, ahead of , Greggs had made them a special delivery, clearly knowing just how popular they were.

"They appreciated that and today they brought us more Greggs than we could possibly eat!" he said.

He added: "They were so amazingly cool - and I guarantee that we're not employed by them!"
