SAGA -- A free exhibition of Arita ware wind chimes is being held in the town of Arita, Saga Prefecture, through Aug. 31.
About 100 different varieties of ceramic wind chimes are on display and available for purchase at the traditional cultural exchange plaza Arita Kan in Arita, one of Japan's leading porcelain production areas.
Among the Arita ware wind chimes of various shapes with myriad patterns are some that have been decorated by 15 sixth graders from Arita Elementary School.
Wind chimes made from the glossy white porcelain and adorned with motifs such as goldfish can evoke a cool and refreshing atmosphere. There are also unusual pieces such as chimes in the shape of a cat.
The sounds produced by the chimes differ depending on their size and shape.
Prices range from 1,000 yen to 5,500 yen.
