Hear'Say set for shock reunion nearly 20 years after winning Popstars

Hear'Say are reportedly in talks for a shock reunion, 20 years after shooting to fame on Popstars.

This year is a year for the unexpected but in a turn of events that no-one saw coming, Kym Marsh, Myleene Klass, Susanne Shaw, Noel Sullivan and Danny Foster are said to be plotting a reunion.

The group were one of the first big reality TV successes in the UK, after millions of viewers tuned in to see them win their places in the then unnamed band as Popstars had everyone hooked at the end of 2000 and going into 2001.

After being revealed as the winners, the five piece swiftly released debut single Pure and Simple, which stayed at the top of the charts for a month and sold 550,000 copies in its first week, setting a new record for the fastest selling debut single of all time.

It went over to sell over a million and their debut album Popstars was also a huge success, selling 306,631 in its first weeks as Hear'Say held the number 1 positions in both the single and album charts.

Second single The Way To Your Love also went straight in at number 1 but Hear'Say's second album couldn't match the same success.

Launch single Everybody peaked at number 4 but the album of the same name only managed number 24

Months later, at the start of 2002, Kym left the group and, after open auditions was replaced by Johnny Shentall, husband of Steps star Lisa Scott-Lee.

The new lineup scored a number 6 hit with Lovin' Is Easy that summer, but, as they performed at radio roadshows around the country were booed and met with animosity from the public.

Hear'Say split in October 2002 but on Tuesday, Lorraine Kelly revealed a reunion was on the cards, after all five members had formed a WhatsApp group.

And, while she added that Myleene said "it might not be the right time for her," music fans were quick to react.

One tweeted: "Is this true ??? 2020 is getting better!!" and Benjamin Butterworth, editor of the i newspaper, reacted: "This is the bridge over troubled waters we need right now. Honestly, Pure & Simple might be my favourite song"
