Healthcare Australia will be allowed to continue in Queensland as a vaccination provider, despite bungling the administration of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine.

The private contractor had been issued with a show-cause notice, after an 88-year-old man and 94-year-old woman at an aged care facility in Brisbane's north, were last month given a higher than recommended dose.

The pair have shown no adverse side effects.

Queensland Health had asked the company to show whether it had appropriate measures in place to properly vaccinate residents in aged care facilities.

Director-General Dr John Wakefield said he was satisfied Healthcare Australia could meet the requirements of Queensland's vaccination code, based on the information provided.

"As such, Healthcare Australia will continue to operate in Queensland as a COVID-19 vaccination provider," said a Queensland Health spokesperson.

Queensland Health said it was also continuing discussions with Healthcare Australia and other aged care vaccination providers to ensure a high standard of patient safety.

Federal response

HealthCare Australia is continuing to rollout the vaccine but have been put on notice by the secretary of the Department of Health.

The Department said any further breach would see the company's contract terminated.

It had been revealed in Parliament, the doctor involved in giving the incorrect dose had not completed the required training.

The doctor has since been stood down from the vaccine program and will be reported to the appropriate medical regulator over the error.

Vaccinations continue

The vaccination rollout is continuing in Queensland, with Toowoomba Hospital and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital on Brisbane's southside the latest sites for the rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The State Government said, as of Tuesday, more than 10,000 people in Queensland had been vaccinated, exceeding its targets.

More locations for the AstraZeneca vaccine will be finalised in coming days.

The Pfizer vaccine rollout continues at six hubs throughout the state.
