Health services will finally move into the £24m Altrincham hub a YEAR after it opened

A £24m health hub will finally host medical services - almost a year after it originally opened.

Two GP surgeries are set to move into the purpose-built Altrincham Health and Wellbeing centre later this year.

The building, which has a library on its ground-floor, had been earmarked for several healthcare services including a minor surgery suite.

But providers refused to move in, blaming high overheads, leaving health bosses with no tenants and facing annual running costs of £2.3m.

A review - launched by chief officer for the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, Jon Rouse - found Trafford's CCG governing body had 'consistently failed' to provide scrutiny and oversight of the project.

Health bosses have said they are 'delighted' therefore that patients will soon be using the location for its original purpose.

One of the upper floors at the Market Street site, intended to be an NHS service centre, will be converted into office space, at a cost of £1.5m.

Altrincham based St Johns Medical Centre and Barrington Medical Centre will both move into the hub's first floor.

Both practices will have double the space of their current sites.

Martyn Pritchard, Trafford CCG's accountable officer, said: "The decisions of the past surrounding the centre have been well documented, but going forward our priority is to provide residents with high quality healthcare services from the centre that meet their needs.

"That's why I am delighted that thousands of patients will now be able to benefit from this purpose built state-of-the-art healthcare facility. We also hope to be in a position soon to announce that more healthcare services will be moving into the building."

Earlier this year Mr Pritchard had said the health organisation had agreed a new constitution and was 'reviewing all its governance arrangements' under new leadership.
