Health Secretary visits St John's to hear experiences locals

Angela Constance MSP for Almond Valley joined the Cabinet Secretary for Health Jeane Freeman on a visit to the children’s ward at St John’s Hospital.

Ms Freeman was able to see progress being made to return the children’s ward to a full 24/7 service later this year, following the increase in opening hours last month to 24/7 opening Monday to Thursday and until 8pm Friday to Sunday.

She also had a roundtable discussion about health issues with representatives from local groups.

Angela Constance MSP said: “This was a great opportunity for the Health Secretary to see our beloved children’s ward in action and to speak with the staff, patients and parents in this busy ward with its positive atmosphere.

"Parents spoke of their positive experiences of local healthcare and being able to avoid the stress and lengthy travel when going to the Sick Kids in Edinburgh. The roundtable discussion was an excellent chance for the Health Secretary to hear about local healthcare issues in West Lothian from those with direct experience.”
