Health Secretary Matt Hancock to make Covid announcement today

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is to lead a coronavirus announcement from Downing Street on Monday afternoon.

Mr Hancock will speak at a press briefing on the day 10 new vaccine hubs opened across the country.

And he will be speaking as the vaccine was opened up to another five million people - with the over 70s being offered a first dose from this week, reports The Express.

Monday also says tough new travel rules come into force across the UK - effectively ending travel corridors.

This morning leading figures in the NHS said hospitals could run out of critical bed space this week, and they warned pressure on hospitals will not ease until well into February.

Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said lockdown rules in England could start to be lifted in early March.

This weekend the Government launched a new campaign with adverts designed to encourage people to comply with lockdown rules.

There have been reports lockdown could be made tougher - with stricter rules on exercise, shopping and support bubbles.

It is believed the address will be held from 5pm.
