Health secretary lays out priority list for coronavirus vaccination

The UK’s Health Secretary has announced who will be first to receivethe Pfizer coronavirus vaccination.

And  is at the top of the list to be vaccinated are care home residents and their carers.

Matt Hancock circulated a letter to MPs on the same day the UK Government gave the green light for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

Crucially, within that letter, he set out who is  deemed priority for the vaccination.

He wrote: “Today, the joint committee on vaccination and immunisation has published its advice setting out the order of priority according to clinical need.

“This includes care home residents and their carers, the over 80s, and the frontline health and social care workers. We will deliver according to clinical prioritisation and operational necessity.

“All COVID-19 vaccines will be free at the point of delivery, distributed according to need rather than someone’s ability to pay.”

We told you earlier this week how British regulator, the MHRA, had announced the vaccination was safe for rollout.

The vaccine, developers say, offers 95 per cent protection against COVID-19 illness and immunisations are now just days away.

East Kilbride MP, Lisa Cameron, chairs the parliamentary ‘health all party group’.

She told us: “I am delighted with the progress that has been made with the vaccine announcement in sincere hope that we may be coming out of this pandemic crisis next spring.

“My thanks extend to our NHS and armed forces personnel who are expected be involved in the urgent roll out.”

NHS Chief Executive, Sir Simon Stevens, said the health service was preparing for “the largest-scale vaccination campaign in our country’s

history”.

Around 50 hospitals are on standby and vaccination centres in venues such as conference centres are being set up now.

Have you or any of your relatives been contacted about being vaccinated? We want to hear from you.
