Health Secretary Humza Yousaf 'teased relentlessly' by pals over scooter fall

Health Secretary Humza Yousaf has revealed he has been teased relentlessly by friends over his fall from a scooter in Parliament.

He said: “For all the slagging I have had about the fall, no one can slag you off better than your own friends.

"My best friends who have known me for more than 25 years have sent me a variety of memes over the course of the weekend.

"They were very amused.”

Yousaf clattered to the ground while using a knee scooter to get about the Scottish Parliament.

He has been forced to use crutches in the Holyrood chamber and a scooter to get about after rupturing his achilles while playing badminton at the end of last month.

The video was posted on Twitter by BBC political editor Glenn Campbell following First Minister’s Questions in the Parliament.

He tweeted: “The Health Secretary @HumzaYousaf does not appear to be having a good day at work…”

The clip shows Yousaf riding his scooter along a corridor while an aide runs alongside holding his crutches.

"Yousaf replied to the tweet from Campbell saying: “All for media scrutiny and never shy away from it.

"Just not sure there is a need or purpose to tweet out a video of me falling over while injured.

Yousaf added: “I wasn’t best pleased when the BBC put it out.

“I am not sure it’s public interest journalism but it is what it is and in this time of crisis, it’s not an important issue in the slightest.”
