Health secretary Matt Hancock has tested positive for the coronavirus- just hours after the Prime Ministe r confirmed he had also contracted it.
Matt Hancock confirmed he is also self-isolating having shown mild symptoms of the virus on Wednesday.
The 41 year old Tory MP tweeted: “I‘ve tested positive. Thankfully my symptoms are mild and I’m working from home & self-isolating.
"Vital we follow the advice to protect our NHS & save lives.”
He will continue to lead the government response to COVID-19.
His 31-year-old girlfriend Carrie Symonds is currently pregnant with their first child and due to give birth in early summer.
It is not known if they are staying together.
A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty.
