CHACHOENGSAO: A public health official died after falling from the doorway of a moving passenger train and being dragged into the gap between the train and the platform at the Chachoengsao railway station on Friday evening.

The woman's body was found beneath the front wheels of the last carriage of the six-carriage Bangkok-Kabin Buri passenger train No.277, said Pol Lt Thotsaphon Sukbia, a deputy investigation chief at the Muang district police station.

The victim, identified as Uthaiwan Chunnakul, 50, of Bang Khla district in Chachoengsao, had suffered a fractured skull and broken arms and legs. She worked as a public health official in Lat Krabang district of Bangkok.

Her black shoes, eyeglasses, a mobile phone, a handbag and a wallet containing 43,177 baht in cash were found at the scene. A gold necklace and bracelet and a gold ring were found with her body.

Pol Lt Paween Khemcharun, a deputy investigation chief attached to the station, said witnesses saw the victim carrying her belongings standing near the door of the first carriage as the train was approaching the station. She suddenly fell from the train just 100 metres before it reached the station.

Passenger Krittapas Penbunprasert, 22, said he was queuing at the door behind the victim, and there was a white foam box between them. As they approached the station, the driver braked and this caused the train to jerk. Suddenly, he saw the woman falling from the carriage and striking the edge of the platform before her body was pulled under, said Mr Krittipas, who was shocked by the incident.

Relatives said Uthaiwan lived with her family in Bang Khla and took the train to work in Bangkok every day. Her husband drove her to the Chachoengsao station every morning and picked her up every evening. The couple had three children.
