However, he said that delta variant could appear in Egypt in the upcoming period.

The scientific and research centers are monitoring the variants in Egypt, Tag El-Din added.

The Health Ministry confirmed 161 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total up to 282,582. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 16,332 nationwide, after the ministry announced 26 new deaths.

Egypt’s total number of fully recovered cases rose to 216,217.

During a televised statement, Tag El-Din noted that Egypt is currently witnessing a drop in infections, hospital admissions and intensive care cases, urging people to continue to comply with precautions to avoid a new wave of the virus.
